Guy Haley’s Titandeath, book 53 in the Horus Heresy series, is the penultimate novel before the Siege of Terra begins and the first proper look at the vast battle for the Beta-Garmon system. With both sides throwing ever-increasing numbers of troops and war machines into the grinder, the focus here is on the Titan Legios of Solaria (or Imperial Hunters) and Vulpa (Death Stalkers) as they clash throughout the system. There’s history between the two Legios that goes beyond general antipathy for the opposing side, and for Princeps Esha Ani Mohana of the Legio Solaria there’s a very personal element at the heart of the conflict.

Upcoming Black Library Titles (as of November 2018)
Every so often I’ll trawl the internet to put together a roundup of all the information I can find about upcoming Black Library releases. It’s been a while since I last did one of these posts, so I thought it was about time for another – this time I’m looking at releases from the middle of November onwards, and I’ve pulled information from the Coming Soon section of the Black Library website, information provided at the Black Library Weekender (and the Warhammer Community post covering that), and elsewhere online.
RAPID FIRE: Guy Haley Talks Corax: Lord of Shadows
Welcome to this instalment of Rapid Fire, my ongoing series of quick interviews with Black Library authors talking about their new releases. These are short and sweet interviews, with the idea being that each author will answer (more or less) the same questions – by the end of each interview I hope you will have a good idea of what the new book (or audio drama) is about, what inspired it and why you might want to read or listen to it.
In this instalment I spoke to Guy Haley about his latest Horus Heresy Primarchs novel, Corax: Lord of Shadows. It’s Guy’s second novel in this series, and one of no fewer than three releases from Guy all coming within a few weeks of each other – he’s a busy man! Lord of Shadows is available to order this weekend as a Limited Edition hardback, and will be available in standard editions in a few months.
The ‘Start Here With Black Library’ Novellas
Over the summer of 2018 Black Library released a series of six paperback novellas, all previously available in different formats and editions, under the label of Start Here With Black Library. These went somewhat under the radar, as they weren’t (and still aren’t) available via the Black Library or Games Workshop websites, instead being available to pick up in book shops, and on Amazon. They’re absolutely amazing value, however, at a mere £3 each, so obviously I picked up a copy of each of them for myself (I found them at Forbidden Planet in London), and I wanted to talk a little bit about them here.
Black Library Summer of Reading 2018 – Roundup
Black Library’s Summer of Reading campaign is a regular fixture on the calendar, a week full of brand new short stories released one a day. Now that this year’s campaign is over, and I’ve published my reviews for all seven short stories, I thought I would take a quick look back at the whole thing, and provide a single place to look for reviews and links for all of the stories. If this is the first you’ve seen about the Summer of Reading, don’t be put off by the distinctly not-very-Warhammer header image – it’s a bit bright and happy for Black Library, but that doesn’t reflect the tone of the stories!
QUICK REVIEW: Prologue to Nikaea – David Annandale
As you can probably tell from the rather ominous cover, David Annandale’s Horus Heresy short story Prologue to Nikaea focuses on Malcador the Sigillite, the perils of the warp, and psykers…lots of psykers. Set during the Great Crusade, it sees Malcador searching for the origin of a great storm in the immaterium, desperate to understand what it portends and whether its influence stretches to the physical plane as well. What he finds, on a world recently wracked by rebellion, promises to haunt him for long years to come and have a profound impact on the future of the Imperium.
QUICK REVIEW: Two Metaphysical Blades – Chris Wraight
Chris Wraight’s Horus Heresy short story Two Metaphysical Blades is a strange beast, an episodic story about a matched pair of weapons and an unlikely pairing of characters, which spans the lifetime of the Imperium. From deep within the Earth prior to even the founding of the Imperium and then out across the galaxy, before returning to Terra for the Siege and its aftermath, this is the story of those two weapons and their wielders – “opposites…in some ways”. Wrapped in mystery and questions of destiny, it’s a tale whose complexity matches that of the two weapons’ creator.
RAPID FIRE: John French Talks Slaves to Darkness
Welcome to this instalment of Rapid Fire, my ongoing series of quick interviews with Black Library authors talking about their new releases. These are short and sweet interviews, with the idea being that each author will answer (more or less) the same questions – by the end of each interview I hope you will have a good idea of what the new book (or audio drama) is about, what inspired it and why you might want to read or listen to it.
In this instalment I spoke (once again) to John French, this time about his latest Horus Heresy novel – Slaves to Darkness. It’s the 51st book in the series, incredibly, and it’s available to order right now.
Jaghatai Khan: Warhawk of Chogoris – Chris Wraight
Chris Wraight’s novel Jaghatai Khan: Warhawk of Chogoris – the eighth in the Primarchs series – is unusual amongst the series in that it’s essentially a direct prequel to his main-range Horus Heresy stories. Told across several short arcs spanning years of the Great Crusade, the emphasis is on Jaghatai’s and his Legion’s determination to go their own way and retain their unique identity. Even while battling orks in the run up to Ullanor, and slowly being dragged into the debate around the use of psykers in the Legions, Jaghatai wrestles with his instinct to avoid the politics of the changing Imperium.
RAPID FIRE: David Annandale Talks Vulkan: Lord of Drakes
Welcome to this instalment of Rapid Fire, my ongoing series of quick interviews with Black Library authors talking about their new releases. These are short and sweet interviews, with the idea being that each author will answer (more or less) the same questions – by the end of each interview I hope you will have a good idea of what the new book (or audio drama) is about, what inspired it and why you might want to read or listen to it.
In this instalment I spoke to David Annandale about his latest Horus Heresy Primarchs novel Vulkan: Lord of Drakes, which is available to order in limited edition hardback format right now!
