Black Library Weekly – w/c 05/09/16

It’s time for another look back at goings-on in the world of Black Library – each week I’m putting together a quick summary of news, releases and pre-orders so you can keep up with what’s been happening.

In the week gone by the big news was the release of The Last Son of Dorn by David Guymer, book ten in The Beast Arises series. Other than that it was a bit quiet (even more so than the last couple of weeks) in terms of big releases, but read on for a look back.

Killing Floor – Lee Child

Lee Child’s iconic ex-cop Jack Reacher first appeared way back in 1997 in the novel Killing Floor, since then returning in nineteen further novels and a 2012 movie, with a second movie and a new novel due for release in 2016. Rewind to 1997 and Killing Floor was the debut novel from the British author, introducing Jack Reacher as a drifter, ex-military police, rambling through America only to find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Passing through an anonymous backwater town he’s arrested for murder – at first interested only in proving his innocence, he soon ends up entangled in a surprisingly personal mystery.

Black Library Live! 2016 – Here’s Hoping!

The fans have spoken, Black Library have listened, and events are back on the calendar with the announcement of Black Library Live! 2016. Dedicated Black Library events, that is – since the last Black Library events in 2014 there have been a couple of Horus Heresy Weekenders run in conjunction with Forge World, and various events at Warhammer World, but nothing that’s been specifically focused on the fiction of the Warhammer universes. The other events have been fun, but it’s about time we got something dedicated to the work of Black Library.

One of Andy Smillie’s excellent Flesh Tearers stories, Death’s Shepherd is a micro-short that’s previously been available in the Black Library Anthology 2013/14 and Trial By Blood collection before its release as a separate e-short. On the blood-soaked world of Zurcon, a Flesh Tearers chaplain leads the last remaining loyal soldiers into battle to redeem their world. Full of rage and drenched in blood, the chaplain has forged the surviving guardsmen into a weapon with violence and well-chosen words, in order to retake Zurcon for the Imperium.
