Nick Kyme’s first Age of Sigmar audio drama, The Imprecations of Daemons sees a Stormcast Eternal revisit the birthplace of her former self to aid her family and confront an old enemy long thought defeated. Over a decade after being borne away by Sigmar to become a Stormcast, Malleon – formerly Mallaeh – returns to the Iron Fastness at the request of her sister Galaeda, to assist their father with a task too great for the old warrior-priest. She finds her home much changed from what she remembers, both the land and the people turned bitter and in great need of Sigmar’s light.

The Way Out – Rachel Harrison
A multi-part audio drama told over three 20-plus minute instalments as part of Black Library’s Digital Horror Week 2019 (subsequently released as a standalone CD/MP3), Rachel Harrison’s The Way Out is a creepy little 40k story of the cracks that let the darkness in. For Captain Karina Arq and her crew, watch station Refuge offers a glimmer of hope when their ship, the Fortune’s Favour, is forced to suddenly drop out of the Warp. It’s not until Arq and her companions board the station, however, that they start to realise that what they thought was salvation may in fact be something entirely different…and much worse.
Perdition’s Flame – Alec Worley
The first ever Warhammer Horror audio drama, and Alec Worley’s first audio drama for Black Library, Perdition’s Flame is the story of comms man Vossk, formerly of the 86th Vostroyan Firstborn, en route to a penal legion as punishment for desertion. Imprisoned alongside murderers and sadists and warded by stern Praetorian Guard, when the ship’s systems start to fail Vossk realises that the horrors he thought he’d left behind have followed him into the void. Something on the ship is causing the failures and spooking both crew and inmates, but Vossk is trapped in his cell while the darkness draws closer.
Eight Lamentations: War-Claw – Josh Reynolds
After the excellent novel Spear of Shadows, Josh Reynolds’ Age of Sigmar series Eight Lamentations continues with the audio drama War-Claw. When one of the infamous Eight Lamentations is located in Aqshy, the Realm of Fire, Grungni sends Owain Volker and Zana Mathos to retrieve it in his name. Before they can lay claim to the weapon, however, Owain and Zana are forced to find refuge with the tattered survivors of a devastated outpost. Tension and mistrust grows as it becomes clear that there are agents of other powers also seeking the same prize, and their survival hangs by a thread.
Our Martyred Lady – Gav Thorpe
A four-part, four-and-a-bit hour Warhammer 40,000 audio drama, Gav Thorpe’s Our Martyred Lady sees Inquisitor Greyfax and Saint Celestine working together (begrudgingly, in Greyfax’s case) to combat a far-reaching plot that harks back to the Reign of Blood. When the head of the Ecclesiarchy makes an unprecedented decision, the consequences are far-reaching – including a very public attempt on the Ecclesiarch’s life. It falls to Celestine and Greyfax to protect the Ecclesiarch, uncover who (or what) was behind the attack, and ensure that nothing – neither the politics of the Ecclesiarchy nor the machinations of Chaos – can undermine the stability of the Imperium.
Nightfane – Nick Kyme
Picking up where Red-Marked left off, Nick Kyme’s Horus Heresy audio drama Nightfane continues the story of Aeonid Thiel as the Ultramarines Sergeant and his men investigate the hidden threats lurking in the shadows of the Five Hundred Worlds. After a somewhat bumpier landing than expected, Thiel and a small group of Ultramarines find themselves on an apparently abandoned rigging station in the midst of the acidic oceans of Bael. As they explore the station in search of its secrets – and its crew – the Red-Marked begin to uncover a darkness that lies beneath the surface of Ultramar.
QUICK REVIEW: Half-Horn by Josh Reynolds
Life’s tough in the underhive, especially so for anyone foolish enough to kill a Guilder. In his short Necromunda audio drama Half-Horn, Josh Reynolds takes a quick look at what might happen in such a circumstance…with predictably unpleasant results. Three disreputable characters are searching for a safe haven, bickering over who’s to blame for their unhappy predicament, driven by fear of who (or what) might be hunting for them. One particular name inspires genuine terror – Gor Half-Horn – but what are the chances of the legendary bounty hunter even being real, never mind being on their trail?
QUICK REVIEW: Hungerfiend – Guy Haley
One of a growing number of Age of Sigmar stories featuring Prince Maesa (and the second in audio), Guy Haley’s Hungerfiend sees the aelven prince and his companion Shattercap in Ghur, the Realm of Beasts, hunting a malevolent spirit. Accompanied by the duardin Idenkor Stonbrak (see this story) they travel high into the mountains in search of the monster that’s been haunting the high passes and terrorising the locals, believing it to be a Mourngul. If their suspicions are true they face a powerful enemy indeed, one which will require more than simply brute force to defeat.
QUICK REVIEW: Black Atonement – David Annandale
David Annandale continues his exploration of Neferata in Age of Sigmar with Black Atonement, a short audio drama which sees the Mortarch of Blood getting creative with her punishments. The city of Shadowvel lies outside the borders of Neferatia, yet to Neferata’s eyes it benefits greatly from its proximity to her realm. Displeased with the city and its prideful citizens, she intends to see it destroyed, and employs her prodigious talent for manipulation to make it so. The Maggotkin of Nurgle desire Shadowvel for themselves, but the city’s powerful defences need to be nullified if Neferata’s plan is to succeed.
QUICK REVIEW: Expectatio – Matt Keefe
Twelve years after his novel Outlander, Matt Keefe returns to the underhive with a Necromunda audio drama – Expectatio. The bounty hunter Arturos is ready to claim a bounty, but it turns out Guilder Meriko doesn’t have the credits to settle up…so he takes his payment in the form of a Spiraptor – a rare piece of technology in the form of a mechanical bird. After learning a little of its secrets, Arturos hatches a plan to put his newfound acquisition to good use and claim a different prize, one which comes with considerable risk but which promises rich rewards.
