Win a Signed Book and Support Mind – For Better Mental Health (Now Closed)

NOTE: we raised £160 with this raffle, which I’m delighted with! Thank you so much to everyone who donated.

The Black Library Events Anthology 2019/20 is a great collection of Warhammer short stories, and I’m offering a copy signed by all six authors (plus most of the Black Library editors) as a prize to raise money for Mind, a wonderful charity offering mental health support to those who need it in England and Wales. I also have a second, unsigned copy for a second prize! To stand a chance of winning, all you need to do is donate £5 to Mind between the 26th November and the 10th December.

Read on to find out more about both the charity Mind and this short story anthology, along with full details of what to do if you would like to enter.

Mind

With 2020 having been such a rough year for so many of us, it’s more important than ever right now to look after our mental health. For me personally, reading is a crucial part of maintaining my own mental health, and when I decided to finally raffle off these books (more on that in a bit) it just seemed right to choose a mental health charity – and Mind was the obvious choice for a charity to support.

If you’re not familiar with Mind, they “provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem”, working to both raise awareness of mental health and improve the services available to those who need them. They provide helplines, online guides and resources, as well as a network of local services around England and Wales.

You can find out more about Mind at www.mind.org.uk

Prizes

There are two prizes to win:

  • 1st: a signed* hardback copy of The Black Library Events Anthology 2019/20
  • 2nd: an unsigned hardback copy ofThe Black Library Events Anthology 2019/20

This anthology is a great little collection of short stories, perfect for both existing fans or anyone looking to dip their toes into the worlds of Warhammer, featuring six stories set in Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Necromunda and Warhammer Horror.

It’s only available at Black Library/Games Workshop events or direct from Warhammer World, and five of the six short stories are currently exclusive to this anthology! You can read Danie Ware’s Sacrifice as a digital e-short, but the other five are only available as part of this book.

Here’s a photo of the back cover with a few details of the stories featured in the anthology:

I bought both copies of the anthology at the 2019 Black Library Weekender with a view to using them to raise money for charity, and got one of them signed by all six authors plus as many editors as I could find. It’s taken me a little while (ok, a long while) to actually get things organised, but here we are – and one of these books could be yours for the price of a £5 donation to charity!

* As you can see from the images below, the first prize copy has been signed by all six authors on their respective title pages, plus loads of the Black Library editorial team:

Disclaimer: this raffle is not affiliated with Black Library. I personally purchased both copies of this book, and am offering them as prizes from Track of Words.

How to enter

If you would like to win one of these anthologies, just donate £5 or more directly to Mind and send me proof of your donation by email, in a tweet or Facebook comment, or via Facebook/Twitter DM.

The draw is open for two weeks – starting from the 26th November, you have until the end of the 10th December to enter.

You’ll be entered into the draw once for each multiple of £5 that you donate – so if you donated £10 for example, you would get two entries.

I’ll draw the winners on the 11th December, and announce them on Twitter and Facebook. I will contact the two lucky people straight away, and then get the prizes posted out as soon as possible.

Note: I’m happy to send the books anywhere that Royal Mail will allow me to send them.

Here’s a quick recap:

  • £5 per entry
  • Donate here: mind.org.uk/donate
  • Email or DM me proof of your donation
  • Winners will be announced on the 11th December
  • I’ll post the prizes out as quickly as I can

What’s a proof of donation?
All I need from you in order to enter the draw is evidence that you’ve donated (including the date, so I know it was during the right window of time), how much you’ve donated, and a way of getting in touch with you if you win.

When you make a donation to Mind you will receive a thank you email, so just send that – or a screenshot of it – to me in any of the following ways, making sure you include the date details:

Note: if you’re going to send a screenshot in a tweet or Facebook comment, you might want to blank out your email address so that you’re not displaying it publicly. I’ll be able to contact you via Twitter/Facebook anyway.

Here’s an example proof of donation showing the donation date (this one was from me so it was obviously before the draw started) and amount:

Why donate directly?
You might be wondering why I’m asking you to donate directly to Mind rather than setting up a JustGiving page, or gathering donations via PayPal. In short, I chose this option for the following reasons:

  • All the money goes to the charity, rather than JustGiving (or an equivalent) taking a cut.
  • Asking everyone who donates to get in touch with me ensures that I have everyone’s details for the draw.
  • Avoiding PayPal means there’s no personal liability for me (and you don’t need to worry about sending money to someone you don’t know in person), and we can avoid getting caught out by PayPal’s rules regarding gambling.

Good luck to everyone entering the draw! I really do think that this is a great cause to support so I hope you can get involved, and I’m sure whoever wins will have a great time reading these excellent Black Library short stories.

If you have any questions about the draw, let me know in the comments below or over on Twitter.

  1. This sounds like such a great prize to have, but I’ll leave it for some one else more passionate to win. Do you own the whole 40K Legends collection in it’s entirety? I’m proper jealous if the answer is yes. Wish I could’ve completed my collection before moving to The Netherlands. Good luck on those raffles everyone.
